Candle Community Trust is a progressive organisation that has pioneered the integration of the Trauma Recovery Model and Restorative Practices into their approach to working with young people.

The Candidate:

Essential job skills/experience required:


  • An *NSETS professionally recognised endorsed qualification in Youth Work or Youth and Community Work.
  • Have worked with young people for two years’ full time in a youth work setting and have an equivalent professional degree level qualification within the Educational/Social Science/Youth Work or Community Work Field

Role Description:

This is an exciting new position of youth worker in a dynamic youth service in Candle Community Trust services. The Youth work position involves devoting 35hrs to the youth service, the development and delivery of programmes and activities that aim to meet the needs of the young people. Candle Community Trust aims to work with young people from marginalised backgrounds that are at risk of social exclusion. It is important that the Youth Worker has the skill set and commitment to work with our target group and to support their personal/educational development. The service will be delivered in accordance with best practice and will provide a safe environment for young people.

This post is an exciting new addition to the Youth Service in Candle and will support the existing team in furthering its delivery of services to Young People in the Ballyfermot area.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide opportunities which support Young People to improve their social and developmental outcomes
  • To engage and build professional relationships with Young People
  • To plan, deliver and facilitate non-formal educational and personal development programmes.
  • To be flexible and attentive to the needs of Young People
  • To provide outreach and Detached Youth Work to ensure Young People from marginalized and disadvantaged communities have opportunities to engage with the service
  • The Youth Worker will have shared responsibility for connecting young people and families into the service
  • To support young people attending Candle to participate fully in order to achieve their full potential
  • Work collaboratively in each of the Candle programme areas namely the Youth Service, Training programme and Connect
  • To manage a key working /care-planning caseload in order to meet the young person’s needs
  • Keep project records and provide updates and reports as requested, attend regular meetings
  • To ensure at all times that the values and ethos of Candle Community Trust are respected and maintained
  • To undertake other appropriate and relevant tasks as directed by the Director.
