Foróige, the National Youth Development Organisation, which promotes and fosters youth development through the operation of various youth services in urban and rural areas throughout the country, through the Department of Justice and Equality and by the European Social Fund 2014 – 2021 through the Irish Youth Justice Service in conjunction with An Garda Síochána, invite applications for the following position:

Youth Officer

Foróige in line with Healthy Ireland’s Framework for Action to improve the health and wellbeing of young people living in Ireland, propose to develop a Youth Bereavement Early Intervention Support Service for young people in County Longford, in recognition of the identified need for a support to young people bereaved in Longford. When a child or young person has been bereaved through suicide this can place them under enormous emotional pressure. Resulting from this, Foróige recognise the importance of providing a youth suicide bereavement support service. We recognise that when a death occurs, young people can experience additional difficulties in understanding and dealing with this experience. We recognise the important of giving young people clear and accurate information at this time. In recognition of the above, and in line with Healthy Ireland’s vision of an Ireland where “everyone can enjoy physical and mental health and wellbeing to their full potential, where wellbeing is valued and supported at every level of society and is everyone’s responsibility” (Healthy Ireland, 2013-2025), Foróige have developed this intervention whereby young people are better able to cope with grief and loss, feel less alone, more confident and happier.
