Limerick South Family Support Project
Barnardos has two family support projects in Limerick, one called Limerick South, based in Southill and the other called Limerick North, with bases in Moyross and Islandgate.
Barnardos services have the goals of improving the emotional well-being of children, and improving their capacity for learning and development. Barnardos is committed to interagency working and a partnership approach with families.
Barnardos Family Support Service offers direct support to families to address the needs of children. The types of intervention usually include individual work with a child and/or a parent; parent and child work; family work; group work with children and adults, drop-in information and advice, and community activities. The types of support provided often include parenting support, practical support, and support to children in terms of managing behaviour, identity work, self-esteem work, sibling work, and other issues as they arise.
Who do we work with?
Barnardos believes that an interagency approach is key to successful outcomes for families engaged with the service.
Referrals for Limerick South are received primarily from Tusla Social Work Dept in Southill Health Centre and Roxtown Health Centre. Other services also refer ie: Public Health Nurses, Schools, Hospitals. While working with a referred family, regular contact is maintained with the referring agency, and review meetings are held with the family to ensure an effective and appropriate service is being offered.
Where we work?
Our Limerick South service works with children and families in the south of Limerick city and delivers services in a number of centres including O’Malley Park Southill, Bishop St and St. Mary’s Girls School in Kings Island. The administrative base for the staff team is in O’Malley Park.
Who are we looking for?
- A minimum of 2 years post qualification experience of working with vulnerable children and families.
- Experience of working in partnership with families and carers.
- Experience of planning, implementing and reviewing programmes with children and/or families.
- A recognised third level practice qualification (minimum Level 7 on the QQI, course content should include relevant student placements) in one of the following:
- Early Childhood Care and Education
- Social Care
- Social Work
- Youth Work
- Or related discipline (Nursing, Psychology, Early Years Education).
A full driving licence and access to the use of a suitably insured car is essential.
