North Dublin Regional Drug & Alcohol Task Force: Youth Counsellor
General Youth Counsellor Full-time role
The mission of North Dublin Regional Drug and Alcohol Task Force Provider is:
To provide a coordinated response to substance use problems in the North Dublin area. We do this by working closely with community, voluntary and statutory partners to provide youth, adult and family services, support existing projects and research on substance use to benefit the community.
In recent years the demand on generic youth counselling has increased considerably and along with specific addiction counselling the Task Force also supports and co-funds generic counselling services that offer free sessions to young people.
As part of that work the Task Force now wishes to employ a youth counsellor. The service will deliver short-term therapeutic supports to young people aged 12-25 years who are experiencing mild to moderate mental health difficulties. This involves 1:1 work with young people mainly on an in-person basis in each of our centres in north Dublin. The position will offer a 3-year fixed term contract, renewable subject to the ongoing availability of funds.
Candidates from a range of backgrounds including social work, occupational therapy, mental health nursing, clinical/counselling/educational psychology, and psychotherapy, are invited to apply.
Primary Responsibilities:
- To conduct initial mental health assessments with young people.
- To provide evidence informed brief, therapeutic interventions to young people.
- To conduct risk assessments and implement risk management plans as appropriate.
- To participate in clinical supervision and line management for support and guidance.
- To participate in team meetings and other meetings as deemed necessary.
- To liaise with other professionals and mental health organisations in supporting the mental health of young people.
- To fulfil obligations as per the Children First Act 2015 and comply with the Task Force Child and Vulnerable Persons Protection and Welfare policy.
- To design, and maintain accurate, confidential client records and reports ensuring compliance with GDPR requirements.
- To comply with the articles under the Data Protection Acts 1988, 2003 & 2018 (GDPR).
- To maintain professional and personal boundaries.
- To engage in some aspects of prevention work as appropriate.
Requirements
Knowledge, Skills And Experience Required
Essential Criteria: Qualifications & Registration/Accreditation – It is essential that you meet one of the below:
- Relevant qualification in Clinical/Counselling/Educational Psychology and/or Chartered Clinical/Counselling/Educational Psychologist through PSI.
- Mental Health Nurse registered with An Bord Altranais.
- Social Worker registered with CORU.
- Occupational Therapist registered with CORU.
- Psychotherapist accredited by the Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP) or the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (IACP).
Desirable Criteria:
- Experience working in health and social care, therapeutic or related organisational settings supporting people with their mental health needs.
- Experience working therapeutically with young people aged 12-25 years.
- Experience of applying core clinical/therapeutic skills; assessment, formulation, risk management, intervention and evaluation in mental health role/setting.
- Experience of /training in delivering brief solution focused therapy, cognitive behaviour therapy, etc.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong time management skills and an ability to manage a busy workload.
- Competent in MS office, Office 365, Microsoft Teams and Zoom.
Salary scale: linked to HSE Clerical V €48085 per annum.
