WHAD (We Have A Dream) Project: Youth Justice Worker

Who we are

The WHAD (We Have A Dream) Project was established in 1988 with the singular goal of reducing re-offending rates of at-risk young men from the Cherry Orchard/ Ballyfermot area. WHAD Project is a registered charity. The project works with groups and individual participants referred through the Probation Service (YPP) and local community agencies (schools, GYDP, local youth projects, etc…) who identified the young men as at-risk of offending behaviour.

Our Purpose

  • To reduce the re-offending rate of young people aged 14-24 years in the Cherry Orchard/Ballyfermot area of Dublin who are classified as being at risk.
  • To enable young people at risk to exert more control over their personal and social behaviour.
  • To encourage each participant to secure power and control over resources made available for them to respond positively.
  • To facilitate the confrontation of the behaviour of each participant to enable them to take responsibility for his/her behaviour.
  • To involve the local community in a community response to the behaviour and occupation of its young people.
  • To use outdoor adventure education as a means of engagement with participants
  • Educate participants in outdoor skills while exposing them to a variety of new environments and experiences.
  • With the Gaisce Awards Scheme as a guide the participants have an opportunity to expand their horizons and see future potential beyond their own peers and communities.
