POSITION: Student Voice Development Manager

OVERVIEW: The Student Voice Development Manager will manage the secretarial functions of the Irish Second-Level Students’ Union and will have responsibility for delivering organisational growth, fulfilling administrative and research/communications functions and is tasked with executing ISSU policy.

The role also includes representative responsibilities in line with the ISSU’s objective of supporting student voice. The successful candidate will be tasked with fostering the continued development of the national organisation and enabling the work of the ISSU National Student Executive.

CONTRACT LENGTH: Reporting to the Board of Directors and to be employed on a two year fixed-term contract, and subject to completion of a 6-month probation period.

WORKING HOURS: 37.50 hours (on a flexi-time basis). Occasional out-of-office hours may be required.

SALARY: €32,739 pro rata p.a.

Job Description/Duties and responsibilities:

  • To adhere to ISSU policies and practices, and actively supporting and promoting the vision, mission, and objectives of the ISSU;
  • To uphold the values of the organisation, as an appropriate role model and ensuring that the promotion of equality and diversity for all officers, volunteers, staff and other stakeholders;
  • To enable the ISSU structures for student voice including the National Student Executive and the support with the coordination National Council of Schools;
  • To develop and advocate for organisational policy positions including, education and welfare research report writing in conjunction with the National Student Executive;
  • Supporting the National Student Executive and providing guidance with their annual work plan;
  • Managing the communications of the organisation, where required, including the issuing of press releases and officer statements;
  • Completion of administrative duties and office management duties as required by the organisation;
  • Supporting the development and growth of the ISSU, including facilitating strategic planning;
  • Execution and development of organisational governance policies and procedures;
  • Building and maintaining relationships with all stakeholders within the education and youth sectors, and trade union movement;
  • Securing and maintaining organisational funding as well as financial planning/management;
  • Meeting with stakeholders and potential donors, and delivering presentations;
  • Overseeing Garda vetting of staff and volunteers in serving as the Child Protection Designated Person;
  • Ensure all records and files are stored and maintained in compliance with data protection legislation;
  • Management of staff members;
  • Attending Board of Directors meetings by invitation as a non‐voting participant.

In conjunction with the Student Council Coordinator;

  • To liaise with schools and student councils to develop and expand the membership of ISSU;
  • To organise the ISSU Regional Councils, Annual Assembly and Summer Skills Academy assisted by the other staff members and volunteers;
  • To coordinate regional and national fora for student voice consultations;
  • This role may involve delivering student council trainings and visiting schools.

PERSON DESCRIPTION:

  • A minimum of 1-2 years’ experience with a youth or student organisation;
  • Enthusiasm and commitment to ISSU’s objectives;
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent proven relevant experience;
  • Knowledge and experience of the Irish education system and the voluntary/non-profit/youth work sectors;
  • Project management experience;
  • People management experience desirable;
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills;
  • Comprehensive grasp of modern media and communications;
  • Motivated and driven;
  • Demonstrable track record of building and developing relationships;
  • Excellent drafting, proofing, and information delivery skills;
  • Financial management and planning experience;
  • Excellence in communicating in English in a variety of contexts;
  • Excellent ICT proficiency;
  • Ability and initiative to work independently and as a self starter;
  • Demonstrable ability to work well in a team;
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and thrive in a fast-paced environment;
  • Attention to detail especially online and in other communications;
  • To carry out the responsibilities of the role in a resource‐efficient manner;
  • Full clean driving licence preferable.

The position is based at ISSU’s national office in Dublin. Hours are based on a 37.50 hour week and 21 days of holidays p.a. This post may involve travel within the State with time off in lieu of working evenings/at weekends. A high level of integrity, accountability, confidentiality, responsibility and flexible, constructive engagement is required in carrying out these duties.
