  • Monday – Saturday rate €14
  • Monday – Saturday antisocial rate €16
  • Sunday rate €17

Job description

Personal assistants are required to assist with all day to day tasks, including the following; personal care, food preparation, physical exercise, general house cleaning and any other activity of daily living upon request.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Physical assistance with personal care, which is to be completed with dignity and respect for privacy (including showering and dressing)
  • Assistance with Medication, bladder washes and stoma care (all relevant training will be provided for these tasks)
  • Meal preparation
  • Manual hoist transfers to and from wheelchair
  • Board transfers to and from wheelchair
  • Assistance with daily exercises
  • Routine house cleaning and other various domestic tasks which should be completed upon request
  • Attending and assisting with community outings when needed e.g. shopping
  • Minimal support with young child needed, when and if required

Required characteristics

  • Ability to follow instructions
  • Fluency in English
  • Must adhere to confidentiality and have respect for privacy at all times
  • Be willing to work evenings, antisocial hours and weekends
  • Flexibility
  • Must have a positive approach to supporting independent living

Required qualifications

  • FETAC level 5 in health care or equivalent training or experience
  • Manual handling experience/qualification is essential
  • Must be available to attend all mandatory training
  • Good knowledge of food hygiene
  • Full clean driving licence

Desirable qualities

  • Previous experience working with an individual with a spinal cord injury

The work is generally routine most tasks are well defined, but can have considerable variation; some phases of the work are less well defined and may require ability to work on own initiative.

By having assistance at the right time I am, enabled to lead an individual and independent lifestyle. An understanding of the Independent Living Model/Social Model of Disability is important in this role as a Personal Assistant.

  • Mandatory Training and induction must be completed before commencing work with Leader.

Main Duties / Responsibilities:

  1. Preparation and cooking of meals physically assisting with preparation of cooking meals from scratch...and washing up etc. The Leader may have special dietary requirements to follow
  2. Light General domestic housework duties that the Leader requires, such as ironing, laundry washing / ironing clothes, including making / changing bed, hovering cleaning the kitchen floor kitchen cupboards cleaning bathroom Shopping.,. etc.
  3. Maintaining the orderliness, hygiene and safety of the working environment the home with guidance from the Leader
  4. Physically assisting with any other tasks that Leader may require to undertake. For example: writing letters filling out forms telephone calls assisting with accounts etc.
  5. Physically assisting with packing for holidays or conferences.
  6. Accompany the Leader on Social outings and other events appointments as required.
  7. Accept and carry out all instructions diligently.
  8. Behave in a reliable and trustworthy manner at all times.
  9. Have clean personal habits.
  10. Willing to attend all training sessions.
  11. Communicate effectively with the Leader and their relatives.
  12. Be reliable and dependable. Arrive at the work at the time specified and work the full amount of time allocated.
  13. The Personal Assistant must be willing to accept instructions and to follow the directions and requests of his / her Leader.
  14. Some evening, antisocial and weekend hours will be required.
  15. Assisting with personal care by carrying out routine personal care duties. Grooming etc. Able to respond flexibly and appropriately to the personal care needs of the Leader Able to provide effective personal care and support in a way which maintains the privacy, dignity and safety of the Leader at all times
  16. General observations of medication Updating Leader records, recording observations etc. With Leader guidance
  17. Moving and handling Leader safely - Able to manoeuvre the Leader safely using aids where appropriate
