Due to the on-going expansion of our service we currently have the following permanent and temporary vacancies throughout the service. The required experience and qualifications are listed separately for Autism Practitioners / Social Care Workers and Support Workers.

A. Dublin 7 Vacancies
Autism Practitioner / Social Care Worker x 1 – Permanent – 0.5 WTE – Residential Roster
Support Worker x 1 – Permanent – 12 hours roster – 12 hours shifts over a rolling 7- day roster

Gheel Autism Services provides supported living services across Dublin. With this type of support the emphasis is on the development of skills for independent living, recognising individual goals and aspirations and enabling people to be active participants in their local community. The support is provided in line with the individual needs and choices of the person, based on assessment of social, personal and healthcare needs. Staff have the opportunity to work on skill development in context, building capacity for interdependence in community and social networks. In addition, we enable adults to develop essential everyday skills such as: money management, self-care, laundry, general housekeeping and cooking skills.

A full, clean driving licence is required for this position.

B. Ballymun Vacancies
Outreach Services (Ballymun)
– Community Support Team – Autism Practitioner / Social Care Worker x 2 Full Time Permanent (39 hours per week)

The Community Support Team (CST) is a progressive model of service that offers support to people with autism across the North Dublin Region. At present the CST supports 11 individuals to live in their own private rented accommodation. The service operates on a support reduction model which aims to provide each person with the right amount of support based on their individual needs. Through collaboration & on-going review this has resulted in a reduction in support over time reflecting the progress that is made.

Using autism informed evidence-based assessments we work with each individual to develop a plan which enables them to build the skills necessary to live independently in their community & have choice and control over their lives and full participation in society as equal citizens. The CST has built links with other agencies & we support individuals to access these services in the community where they can avail of specialised supports in areas such as education, employment, housing, social and overall well-being.

Each individual accessing the service is allocated a support leader who works closely with them to develop independence, well-being & inclusion. This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced & passionate health or social care professional to join a highly motivated team of skilled professionals from a variety of backgrounds including social care, psychology & mental health.

All Autism Practitioners/Social Care Workers who work on the Outreach Services Teams work on a rolling roster which averages between 10 & 11 x 24hr shifts per month – overnight allowances, premium payments & annual increments are included.

A full, clean driving licence and access to own car for work purposes is also a requirement for this position.

C. North Kildare Positions:
Residential Roster - North Kildare Services – Support Worker- 2 year fixed term contract – 1 Whole Time Equivalent (39 hours per week)

This position is working on a residential roster based in the vicinity of Maynooth, Co. Kildare supporting adults with Autism over a number of locations. As part of a dedicated support team, you must have the awareness and skillset to support those who experience sensory differences, therefore, enabling them to maximize their experiences both within their own home and the community. Staff are required to promote the wellbeing of all service users across all locations ensuring that they achieve a high quality of life while working under guidelines and standards for the area. One of our Service Users attends day services while the other is more independently focused and is moving toward the ultimate goal of independent living. A full clean driving licence is required.

D. Support Worker – Day Services - North Kildare (1.0 Permanent Whole Time Equivalent)

This service is based just outside Maynooth, in the countryside.You will work on a day services roster and your hours of work will be Monday – Friday, but on occasion you will be required to work rostered hours over a weekend, in line with service provision requirements.  This is a very busy house with the service users enjoying a mixture of home and community-based activities.  As the ideal candidate you will be proactive and imaginative when it comes to service provision.  Excellent report writing skills, experience working in a fast-paced environment and the ability to work on your own initiative are a must, while working under the New Directions model of support.

  • Level 7 award in Social Care/Studies delivered by an Institute of Technology, DIT or National University of Ireland
  • A qualification received outside the State recognised by NARIC as equivalent to the Irish Level 7 award.
  • Relevant third level qualification at degree level i.e. social work, psychology, and/or allied health.
  • Post-graduate qualification in Autism Studies

Salary Scale: Successful candidates will be paid in line with 2016 HSE revised consolidated Social Care Worker pay scale point 1; €30,293 – point 12; € 44,306 per annum based on working a 39-hour week.

Essential Experience Autism Practitioner/Social Care Workers:

  • At least one-year recent experience in the social care/disability sector
  • Experience of dealing with safeguarding and welfare responsibilities and responding appropriately to any concerns.
  • Experience in liaising and networking with community services.
  • Ability to promote independence – supporting others to learn how – not doing it for them.
  • Commitment to the values of Gheel and the philosophy of independent living.
  • An understanding of the social model of disability.
  • Be a mindful reflective professional.
  • Experience of supporting individuals with a diagnosis of ASD.
  • Demonstrated experience to meet tight deadlines.

Essential Qualifications and Experience for Support Worker positions:

  • At least one-year recent experience in the social care/disability sector
  • Experience working with adults with autism
  • Full, clean driving license

Essential Qualifications for this post:

  • Fetac Level 5 or equivalent in social care
  • Qualification in Health or Social Science

Salary Scale: Successful candidates will be paid in line with 2016 HSE revised consolidated Care Assistant pay scale point 2; €25,516 – point 13; € 36,680 per annum based on working a 39-hour week. There is 23 days annual leave per annum.

Relief Panel Vacancies

We are currently recruiting for positions on our Relief panel to provide cover for staff on leave and attending training. There are positions available across the service in North Kildare, Dublin 3, 6, 7 9, & 18. These are front line positions actively supporting our service users. Successful candidates will gain valuable knowledge and experience in a fast paced and dynamic environment. You will have the opportunity to work in an organisation that is passionate about best practice in terms of service delivery. Full training is provided. A full clean driving licence is preferable, although not essential for all positions (please contact HR for further details).
