Job Title: Accommodation-based Support Services Manager - 2 Year Fixed Term Contract
Reporting to: Head of Services

Purpose of Role:

As the Accommodation-based Support Services Manager, you will be a key member of the Sonas Services Management Team, reporting to the Head of Services. You will be responsible for the operation of the accommodation-based services, overseeing client case management in the service and line managing the multi-site support team.

Accommodation-based services in Sonas consists of 50 units of Supported Housing and Safe Homes primarily in Dublin locations.


  • Lead the accommodation-based support services team to deliver quality services to clients to best practice standards
  • To ensure that the needs of clients are central to the work in accordance with the service standards of the organisation
  • To ensure the continuous improvement and adaptation of the service to evolving needs
  • To foster an atmosphere of Respect and Dignity at work for all through the line management and support and supervision of staff

Key Responsibilities

Client Engagement and Support

  • To manage referrals to Sonas services and to oversee client case management
  • To ensure that all practices, procedures and protocols are understood and adhered to by support staff in their engagement with clients and on behalf of clients
  • To ensure staff are aware of their obligations under Children First

Quality Standards

  • To ensure that support staff adhere to Sonas quality standards and participate in the performance management systems
  • To ensure staff are aware of and follow through on legal and organisational health and safety policies and procedures relevant to their work including timely reporting of any incidents

Recording and evidencing our work

  • To ensure provision of key statistics relating to service delivery, including KPIs and emerging trends
  • To inform the Head of Services / Senior Management Team of trends, gaps and blocks in support services to clients
  • To ensure the implementation / monitor the use of the IT system
  • To engage with external agencies as required around client referral and case management


  • To line manage staff including supervision, annual review and development, informal supervision and availability
  • To identify training and support needs of staff and/ or team and inform HR Manager and Client Services Team staff
  • To be responsible with the Head of Services / HR Manager for the recruitment, induction and training of support staff

Budget and Financial Management

  • To develop an annual draft budget for the service in consultation with the Head of Services and monitor budget

Stakeholder engagement

  • To develop relationships with relevant stakeholder agencies in each service area and represent Sonas

Person Specification

Education and Qualifications

  • A relevant third level qualification or holds a relevant professional qualification
  • A minimum of two years’ relevant experience with line management and case management
  • A recognised management/supervisor training course, diploma or certificate
  • A full clean drivers license and access to a car

Relevant Experience: Essential

  • Demonstrable line management experience in social care support service environment
  • Demonstrable case management experience in social care support service environment
  • Experience of multi-location working in a social care environment
  • Experience of providing accommodation-based services
  • Clear understanding of domestic abuse issues including challenges of women and children out of home as a result of domestic abuse
  • Up to date knowledge of child welfare and protection system in Ireland and its application to work of Sonas
  • Ability to assist staff in devising implementing and reviewing work plans
  • Effective at providing support and supervision to staff.
  • Knowledgeable on legal, housing and social welfare issues.
  • Is able to work directly with clients in the event of an emergency An ability to write reports
  • An ability to collate statistics using a CRM database
  • Excellent time management skills including ability to work to tight deadlines as required.
  • Effective in working as part of team.

Relevant Experience: Desirable

  • Experience of working with families who have experienced domestic violence gained either in a specific domestic violence service or a service where domestic violence would have been a feature of client experience/ need
  • Project management experience in a social care work setting
  • Previous experience of working directly with children at risk
  • Experience of working with people with substance abuse or mental health difficulties
  • Evidence of designing/participating in the evaluation of programmes, projects and services
  • Experience of representing an organisation in networking, policy or stakeholder engagement contexts


  • Good understanding of domestic violence and its impact on women and children
  • Good understanding and knowledge of child welfare and protection system
  • Good knowledge of health and safety requirements relating to social care services including accommodation based service
  • Knowledge of relevant rights, entitlements and legislation applicable to victims of domestic violence
  • Knowledge of legal, statutory, regulatory and good practice requirements for services
  • Knowledge of service delivery policy environment
