Regional Project Officer, Getting Started Programme

Getting Started Programme

The aim of this programme is to provide basic training on the use of computers and mobile phones for people over 55. It started in 2006 and has been extremely popular among older people and has spread rapidly particularly in the Dublin, Cork and Galway areas. We have recently been awarded further funding under the Department of Communications, Climate Action & Environment Digital Skills for Citizens Training Fund. We provide as many older people as possible with a chance to learn and develop their computer and mobile phone skills with a view to enhancing their participation in society.

Empowerment and Regional Development

Empowerment and Regional Development is a major focus in our strategic thinking. It is a term that we use to cover the wide variety of activities that we undertake in mobilising and empowering older people at local and regional level and in expanding our work to cover the whole country. From the beginning, we have tried to promote the active involvement of older people and close partnerships with other relevant organisations. We aim to focus on achieving long term fundamental changes in the lives of older people largely through advocacy by older people and securing their right to comprehensive high-quality services.
