Job Title: NCP Migrant Family Support Service Project Worker
Reports to: NCP MFSS Project Co-ordinator
Hours: part time (3 days)

Overall Purpose of Job

The Migrant Family Support Service is a new service for migrant families, co-ordinated by New Communities Partnership and supported by TUSLA.
The Service delivers culturally sensitive support and advocacy services to migrant families who are experiencing child protection interventions.

MFSS Project worker will work closely with Project Co-ordinator to develop the project and continue to deliver positive outcomes for migrant children and families who are experiencing child protection interventions.

Key Responsibilities

  • To support the growth of the new Migrant Family Support Service by identifying sustainable solutions for migrant families
  • To continue the development and implementation of the Migrant Family Support Service engagement with distressed families in the drop-in clinic, outreach, by phone etc…
  • To develop, guided by Project Co-ordinator, collaborative working relationships within external agencies who legislate on child protection (mainly social workers)
  • To promote the common goal of positive outcomes for migrant children and parents who are experiencing child protection interventions
  • To deliver training to ethnic led organisations, church leaders, Imams, and ethnic community leaders on parenting practices in Ireland and child protection procedures
  • To input and monitor into the client service database for evidence-based practice and compliance requirements
  • To effectively run activities with the Migrant Family Support Service team as required by Project Co-ordinator and NCP management

Person Specification

  • Working knowledge of childcare legislation and ideally experience, in front line children and/or family services
  • Experience in child focused programmes and/or community development, experience in advocacy
  • Knowledge about Child Protection Services and referral pathways
  • High level interpersonal skills including the ability to build collaborative relationships with sensitivity to cultural, ethnic, and social issues
  • Working knowledge about migrant communities, their issues and cultural diversity
