St. Brigid’s Family and Community Centre: Play Therapist x 2 (Full-Time & Part-Time) & Adolescent Counsellor (Part-Time)

Two Play Therapist positions required for St. Brigid’s Family and Community Centre, 37 Lower Yellow Road, Waterford

St. Brigid’s Family and Community Centre provides a range of programmes, supports and services in response to the needs of the local community to families, individuals and community groups. The services and programmes are provided under the principles of family support and community development and include the provision of family supports such as practical, emotional, esteem, information and advice.

The Therapeutic Team Waterford / Wexford Region is an innovative multidisciplinary team that focus on delivery of therapeutic services which are needs led, supportive, co-ordinated and evidence informed to enable children to be safe and achieve their full potential. Assessment and tailored interventions informed by psychological and sociological theories are utilised to facilitate recovery from adverse experiences.


Position 1:

Fulltime Play Therapist

This fulltime Play Therapist will be employed by St. Brigid’s Family and Community and Community Centre and carry out the work assigned by the TUSLA Therapeutic Manager Waterford / Wexford. This post will also be line managed by the Therapeutic Manager.

Job Description

  • To provide a professional and comprehensive Play Therapy service in a community setting
  • To work on an outreach basis when required from an external base
  • To deliver play therapy sessions on an individual basis to children from 4 to 12 years of age
  • To contribute to the development of a Play Therapy / Creative Therapy service for teenagers and young people
  • To maintain all quality / professional standards and codes of practice
  • To maintain affiliation to the relevant professional body
  • To maintain the high professional and ethical standards in the provision of care to clients established by St. Brigid’s Family and Community Centre and by Tusla Waterford /Wexford.

Other

  • To attend relevant internal and external supervisions and trainings
  • To complete all relevant admin associated with the role
  • To follow all St. Brigid’s Family and Community Centre policies and procedures
  • To contribute to evaluations, policy, reports, funding applications etc. as requested
  • To be line managed by the Tusla Therapeutic Manager and take directions where appropriate on issues relating to clients
  • To undertake any other work as requested by the Tusla Therapeutic Manager

Person Specification

You must:

  • Have a relevant professional qualification in play therapy and / or filial and theraplay
  • Be an accredited member of Play Therapy Ireland or another professional body
  • Have a minimum of 3 years experience as a play therapist
  • Have experience of working as a play therapist with teenagers and young people
  • Have a child / youth person focussed perspective
  • Be enthusiastic and motivated
  • Have experience working in an interdisciplinary team
  • Have an up to date knowledge on Child Protection
  • Have a knowledge and experience of the issues facing parents and cares

Terms of Role

This is a fulltime position for 35 hours a week, Monday to Friday, based in St. Brigid’s Family and Community Centre, 37 Lower Yellow Road, Waterford. The fulltime salary scale is starting at €39,967 for a 35 hour week commensurate on skill and experience. Annual leave and other benefits will be provided. The post is subject to a 12 month probationary period.

Part Time Play Therapist

This part time Play Therapist will be employed by St. Brigid’s Family and Community Centre and line manager by the TUSLA Therapeutic Manager Waterford / Wexford to work 20 hours per week from Wexford on an outreach basis.

Part Time Adolescent Counsellor required for St. Brigid’s Family and Community Centre, 37 Lower Yellow Road, Waterford

Job Description

The post holder will promote an ethos of best practice, professionalism and accountability within Adolescent Counselling by:

  • Supporting models of best practice and evidence based practice
  • Participating in the ongoing monitoring, audit and evaluation of Adolescent Counselling
  • Reporting Child Protection concerns in accordance with St. Brigid’s guidelines
  • Reporting any clinical concerns as appropriate to the Clinical Lead
  • Actively participating in regular clinical supervision in accordance with St. Brigid’s supervision policy
  • Actively participating in regular line management supervision
  • Engaging in in-service and other relevant training opportunities and keeping up to date with new developments in the area of counselling / therapy

Person Specification

You must:

  • Have a relevant professional qualification in counselling
  • Be an accredited member IACP or another professional body
  • Have a minimum of 3 years experience as a counsellor
  • Have experience of working as a counsellor with young people

Terms of Role

This is a part time position for 15 hours a week based in St. Brigid’s Family and Community Centre, 37 Lower Yellow Road, Waterford. The salary is €15,600. Annual leave and other benefits will be provided. The post is subject to a 6 month probationary period.
