St. Catherine’s Association is a non-profit organisation which provides health services, training, education and residential/respite care to children and young people who have intellectual and other disabilities which may include mental health difficulties and ASD. These services include Early Intervention for children from birth to age six, Pre-School Support, a school age team providing clinical support to children attending St. Catherine’s Special Needs School and mainstream classes in South County Wicklow, Respite/Residential living, Psychology, Speech & Language Therapy, Physiotherapy, Positive Behaviour Support, Occupational Therapy, Nursing and other supports.
The following vacancy exists on a Part-time Permanent basis (30 hours per week) for a:
Principal Clinical Psychologist (Specialist)
The Principal Clinical Psychologist (Specialist) will work with senior management and the heads of discipline/services to ensure co-ordinated and comprehensive service delivery to, and effective communication with, all stakeholders. S/he will be responsible for the delivery, development and governance of quality psychological services and will contribute significantly to service planning, development, evaluation and quality initiatives.
Such psychological leadership and services will be provided in line with service plans and objectives, and within established professional standards, guidelines and policy. The post holder will provide supervision, mentoring and management to both the Psychology Department and the Positive Behaviour Support Department. This post will reconfigure as part of the National Strategy for Progressing Disability Services to the Network Disability Teams in Co. Wicklow.
- A recognised University degree or diploma (QQI Level 8 equivalent) obtained with first or second class honours in which Psychology was taken as a major subject and honours obtained in that subject.
- A recognised postgraduate PhD qualification in clinical psychology validated by the Department of Health.
- At least eight years satisfactory post graduate experience in the area of clinical psychology including at least five years satisfactory experience in a senior capacity.
- Managerial experience.
- Effective supervision skills.
- Experience in
- engaging in assessment and therapeutic interventions with young people with intellectual disabilities and/or other disabilities including mental health difficulties.
- working with Positive Behaviour Support Specialists.
- Effective leadership and team skills.
- Knowledge of:
- Progressing Disability Services, the Disability Act (2005), HIQA standards for respite and residential services.
- assessment and psychometric testing measures used with young people with intellectual disabilities and/or other disabilities including mental health difficulties.
- Ability to:
- apply knowledge to best practice.
- manage and develop self and others in a busy working environment.
- evaluate information and make effective decisions especially with regard to service delivery.
- plan and manage resources with regards to service delivery
- empathise with and treat others with dignity and respect.
- facilitate change
- Interpersonal and communication skills including the provision of reports and expert evidence to the courts, skills in multi-disciplinary working and the ability to collaborate with colleagues, families, etc.
- Full drivers license and access to transport.
