Helplink Support Services (HSS) is an award winning, not-for-profit organisation that provides free or low cost social support services nationwide and beyond. We provide counselling via phone, online (Skype) or face to face in our Galway offices.
In 1998 the Department of Health and Social Services in Northern Ireland and the Department of Health and Children in the Republic of Ireland agreed to establish an Institute in conjunction with the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland which would offer practical benefits through promoting cooperation in the area of public health.
Peer advocates are people who have personal experience of mental health difficulties who have achieved a sufficient level of recovery to complete an accredited training course in peer advocacy. Once they are qualified they can complete a period working with an existing peer advocate before engaging with clients on their own. This puts them in a unique position in understanding the problems faced by people with mental health difficulties.
The Irish Association of Social Workers is the national professional body for social workers in the Republic of Ireland. It was founded in 1971 and has a membership of over 1,200 social workers. The IASW is an active member of the International Federation of Social Workers, which represents professional social work associations from over 55 different countries with more than 350,000 social workers in all parts of the world.
