AIDS WEST is a voluntary organisation funded by the Western Health Board based in Galway. We offer an information help line, education / prevention services and support to people affected by HIV and to those concerned about their sexual health in counties Galway, Mayo and Roscommon.
Our services are completely confidential.
Aids West was formed in 1987 as Cairde with the aim of providing support to people with HIV/AIDS. Later it also took on the aims of providing education/prevention services and to lobby for service development. At that time there was little government or regional policy on HIV/AIDS and the organisation survived on the goodwill of a number of dedicated volunteers concerned about the situation.
Our mission is to provide the highest quality support service to those infected with HIV, to their affected families, carers and partners and top influence the spread of HIV through health promoting education programmes. Fostering optimum sexual health and well being of all persons, without prejudice, is central to the flexible, responsive and innovative approach at AIDS WEST. We also provide information on STIs including Hepatitis B & C.
