CASPr (Community After Schools project)

CASPr is situated in the North East Inner City of Dublin.

Its mission is to contribute to the development of the local community by encouraging local people to become actively involved in providing activities for children while at the same time improving their own life situations.

The Project's activities represent a partnership approach at local level between community, local schools and service providers.  The Project has been developed through the vision and hard work of local workers and parents.

It represents a 'ground up' community development approach to child care and educational support for children in the 5 to 10 years age group in the north east inner city of Dublin, an area of identified acute educational disadvantage.

The Project's tries too address educational disadvantage on two levels; the children and adults. Its aims are two fold

  1. the care and educational support of children from the local community
  2. the training and development of the local adults of the staff team.

CASPr runs two projects linking with two local primary schools and providing after school activities. Activities for children include:
- help with homework
- sports and recreational activities
- arts and crafts
- holidays and outings.

Alongside the running of activities and programmes for local children, the work programme on offer to the participants is geared towards training with a view to both personal development and the enhancing of employment opportunities.

Accredited training is on offer to all participants.
Through accredited training CASPr has enhanced the employment opportunities for participants. Many previous participants are now successfully employed in the fields of child-care, youth and educational support.
