About Boyne Navigation - I.W.A.I.
The Boyne Navigation - I.W.A.I. is a subgroup of the Inland Waterways Association of Ireland (I.W.A.I.). The primary objective of the group is the restoration of the Boyne Navigation (Canal), which goes between Drogheda and Navan, criss crossing the River Boyne. Our group was formed in May 2007. We are actively working on the Navan and Drogheda sections of the waterway."
We are looking for volunteers to take part in our ongoing work and clean up of the Boyne Navigation, on either the Drogheda or Navan sections.
The work comprises of landscaping, litter removal, masonry repairs, carpentry, painting, construction and anything else the project leader directs to be done. No formal practical skill level is needed but would be useful. We also need administrative help.
Volunteers can take part in up to 5 workdays, after this volunteers are required to become members, for an annual fee, for insurance purposes. While at a workday, magazines featuring work previously carried out by our group will be on offer.
Our Drogheda group normally carry out two Saturday workdays per month, starting at 10:00 a.m. and usually finishing at 15:00. Our Navan group meet every Monday (except bank holidays) and work between 11:00 a.m. – 01:00 p.m. Since our work is outdoors weather can determine if a workday goes ahead or is cancelled.
