About Finglas Counselling Service

The Finglas Counselling Service is a voluntary organisation founded in 1990 by a group of local community workers, who identified a need for a counselling service for people in the area. Having been based in a number of locations since it opened, the Finglas Counselling Service has now found a permanent home in St Helena’s Family Resource Centre in Finglas.

The service provides low cost, accessible general counselling for people living in Finglas and surrounding areas. It is provided by counsellors on a voluntary basis. A core number are fully accredited by either IACP or IAHIP with the remainder working up their hours towards accreditation.

What's Involved?

We are currently seeking to recruit a number of volunteer counsellors & psychotherapists to meet the growing demand for adult counselling services in the community. We are looking for volunteers who could give a weekly commitment of 3-4 hours per week to provide 1:1 counselling & support to local people with diverse mental health needs within a safe, non-judgemental environment.

What's required for this position?

Applicants should have completed a minimum of two years in an accredited counselling/psychotherapy training course and be deemed by the college to have achieved the level of skills required to be considered suitable to work with adult clients. Some client work experience would be a distinct advantage. Garda vetting & professional insurance required.

Times and commitment required: 3 – 4 hours per week, daytime or evenings Monday - Friday
