Purple House Cancer Support Centre is to the forefront in providing a range of professional support services to people of all ages affected by Cancer in Ireland.

Our aim is to help rebuild the lives of families affected by Cancer. Purple House is at the heart of the community.

Founded in 1990, Purple House was the first Community-based Cancer Support Centre in Ireland and today operates a wide range of support services from Purple House at Aubrey Court, Parnell Road, Bray, Co. Wicklow as well as Cancer Support Clinics in Dun Laoghaire.


1. Purple House Cancer Support Centre - Volunteer Drivers:

What's Involved:

Volunteer drivers collect and drive a client to appointments in any of the following hospitals/hospices:-
St. Vincent's, St. Luke's Rathgar, St. Michael's Dun Laoghaire, St. James's Hospital Dublin, Beaumont Hospital Dublin, St. Columcille's Loughlinstown, Blackrock Clinic, or Blackrock Hospice.

This is a vital service that ensures that people without their own transport can access their cancer treatment.

Volunteers operate on a roster system. The volunteer identifies a day of the week that suits them best and when a client of Purple House Cancer Support requires the support of a driver in order to access their medical treatment the coordinator contacts the volunteers registered as available on the relevant day to organise the pick-up etc.

Volunteer drivers may be required to drive the Purple House Patient transport car.

What's required for this position:

  • Access to own car and evidence of a full, clean and up to date driving licence is required.
  • Volunteer must be fully insured and able to provide evidence of same.
  • Patient and reliable. Good communication skills and good sense of humour.

2. Purple House Cancer Support Centre - Volunteer Counsellors & Psychotherapists:

What's Involved:

At Purple House Cancer Support Centre, we provide a Counselling Service to Cancer patients and family members of Cancer patients.

The volunteer will provide professional one to one counselling to people who have been diagnosed with cancer or to family members of Cancer patients.

Fully accredited Counsellors & Psychotherapists and student Counsellors working towards accreditation are required to join our Cancer Counselling Team in our Cancer Support Centre in Bray, Co.Wicklow.

What's required for this position:

  • Fully Accredited Counsellors & Psychotherapists (IACP or equivalent Accreditation)
  • Student Counsellors & Psychotherapists working towards Accreditation.
  • A knowledge of Cancer Support and the issues that affect Cancer patients. Ability to work as part of the wider Clinical Team at Purple House.
  • Undertake in house training and supervision as required.
  • 2 Hours per week commitment required.

3. Purple House Cancer Support Centre - Volunteer Reflexologists & Massage Therapists:

Fully trained volunteer Reflexologists and Massage Therapists required to join our team of therapists to provide Complimentary Therapies to Cancer patients at our Cancer Support Centre in Bray Co. Wicklow.

A knowledge of Cancer Support and the issues that affect Cancer patients is required. Ability to work as part of the wider Clinical Team at Purple House is required.
