Peace Brigades International (PBI) Ireland: Treasurer

PBI Ireland seeks Treasurer to join the Board of Directors.

The Irish country group of Peace Brigades International (PBI) is currently seeking a Treasurer. PBI is an international human rights organization dedicated to nonviolence and conflict transformation.

The role of the Treasurer is to assist the coordinator in all aspects of the organisation’s financial management and to take specific responsibility for the oversight of all financial transactions. The treasurer is also required to carry out general bookkeeping duties including regular bank balance reviews, maintaining petty cash records etc. PBI Ireland is a small organisation, so the number of such transactions is minimal (fewer than 100 transactions per annum).

About PBI

PBI is an international NGO with 36 years of experience working alongside human rights defenders, opening and protecting space for peace, conflict transformation and the defence of human rights in 14 countries. We are a life-saving international presence in areas of conflict and repression, and a powerful global advocacy network protecting those on the ground.

PBI envisions a world in which people address conflicts nonviolently, where human rights are universally upheld and social justice and intercultural respect have become a reality.

We provide protection, support and recognition to local human rights defenders who work in areas of repression and conflict and have requested our support. We believe that lasting transformation of conflicts cannot come from outside but must be based on the capacity and desires of local people. Our work is effective because we take an integrated approach, combining a presence alongside human rights defenders on the ground with an extensive network of international support.

About PBI Ireland

PBI Ireland forms part of a network of country groups that provide international support to the mission of Peace Brigades International. We carry out a series of activities including advocacy, fundraising, volunteer recruitment, public awareness raising and peace education. We rely on a dedicated team of volunteers to do this and are seeking your support and involvement in our ongoing projects.

We are seeking a Treasurer to:

  • prepare management accounts and present them to the PBI Ireland Board of Directors;
  • be a member of the Board of Directors, attend Board meetings and contribute to discussions on the general direction of PBI Ireland;
  • chair the Finance Committee of PBI Ireland (which meets 3 to 4 times per year);
  • prepare books and supporting documents for accountants;
  • ensure that accounts are filed and the Annual Return has been submitted.
