About Concern Worldwide

Concern Worldwide is an international organisation dedicated to reducing suffering and working towards elimination of extreme poverty in some of the world’s poorest countries. Concern also has a vibrant youth programme based in Ireland in which we engage young people with complex development issues such as poverty, gender, hunger and climate change. Our flagship programme is the Concern Debates in which 800+ students take part each year.

Concern are looking for Volunteer Adjudicators to attend and mark student debates. Full training is provided.

How would you like to volunteer for Concern Worldwide Debates Programme?

Concern Worldwide have been running their Concern Debates programme for over 35 years aimed at getting post primary students debating on issues of development and current affairs.

Each debate requires three independent adjudicators to mark the debate. Full training is provided for each volunteer adjudicator and Concern will happily provide a reference for each volunteer who participates.

Volunteers can adjudicate as many or as few debates as they wish! Debates last max one hour and take place within post primary schools from 8pm. Concern will endeavour to connect you with your nearest Debates school.

What's required for this position?

  • Ability to see both sides of an argument and keep an open mind.
  • Being a good listener.
  • Evaluating an argument according to a criteria.
  • Being able to give constructive, positive feedback.
  • Good time keeping.
  • Being reliable.

Level of English required for this role: Fluent English

Times and commitment required for this role:

  • Evening, Monday to Friday
  • Minimum time commitment: Flexible
  • Hours required: 2hrs Monthly
