Volunteer Role Title: Polish Interpreter Volunteer

Crosscare Service: Crosscare Housing & Welfare Information is an information and advocacy service focusing on housing, homelessness and social welfare

Volunteer Manager: Anne Hetherington

Volunteer Role:


  • To provide a confidential interpreting service through Polish and English for clients who attend our Polish clinics
  • To assist Information Officers in providing an information and advocacy service to clients who present to our clinics through Polish and English
  • To assist with translation of information leaflets and documents when required
  • To report any major issues with the service to your volunteer manager


  • To maintain open communication with staff and volunteer manager including; cancellation of shifts and handovers
  • To observe Crosscare Health & Safety Procedures
  • To observe clear professional boundaries in relations with clients
  • To respect guests right to confidentiality in our relationship with them as per the Crosscare Confidentiality and Code of conduct policies
  • To be able to volunteer as part of a team.
  • To commit to agreed volunteer times for agreed time commitment where possible.

Essential Skills/Qualities:

  • Fluent English and Polish
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Commitment to working with Crosscare Housing & Welfare Informations’ client group

Desirable skills/Qualities:

  • Previous interpreting experience

Support & Learning opportunities offered to volunteer:

  • Opportunity to develop interpreting skills
  • Gain an understanding of how the Housing and welfare team work to support vulnerable people in the community and how it operates within the overall work of the Crosscare agency
  • Access to Crosscare Community College courses & in-house training (optional )
  • On-going onsite support
  • Regular 1-1 check in’s with Volunteer manager
  • Out of pocket expenses reimbursed as per induction
  • Reference provided after 6 months

Location: Crosscare, 1 Cathedral Street, Dublin 1.

Volunteer days/hours: Fortnightly Tuesday or Friday mornings from 10am- 1pm

Commitment Duration: 6 months where possible
