Become a SATU Support Worker with Galway Rape Crisis Centre
Galway Rape Crisis Centre
Galway Rape Crisis Centre is a dynamic organisation with passionate staff. We have been supporting survivors of sexual abuse and rape since 1984.
The centre offers a range of services to its clients that include short and long term counselling, court accompaniment, mindfulness group sessions, and advocacy services.
Our services to the wider community include an education and prevention programme that we deliver to secondary schools and third level colleges, as well as disclosure trainings for anyone who, in a professional or volunteering capacity, might receive disclosures of sexual violence or abuse.
The Sexual Assault Treatment Unit
As a result of 20 years of campaigning work by GRCC, Galway became the location of one of the country’s few Sexual Assault Treatment Units. This unit offers multidisciplinary services by Gardai, health professionals and GRCC to people in the immediate aftermath of a sexual assault or rape. GRCC volunteers provide vital psychological support to the SATU unit’s clients.
Research has shown the huge difference that emotional support makes to survivors in the immediate aftermath of trauma. Would you like to make a difference in your community?
We are currently recruiting female SATU support workers. GRCC will provide you with comprehensive training over 6 weekends and two evening sessions. You will be part of a team of volunteers that receive excellent support and supervision, ensuring best practise standards. Out of pocket expenses are covered.
