Care After Prison: Volunteer Support Worker

CAP-Care After Prison is recruiting a volunteer support worker to support our team in a busy, challenging and rewarding environment. As a keyworker you will be actively involved in:

  • one to one support work:
  • administrative tasks:
  • case reporting:
  • referral:
  • record keeping.

CAP is a charity organisation which provides information, referral and support services to people who have been affected by imprisonment. This service offers ex-offenders a safe environment where they identify areas of need within their lives where support is needed to continue with their goal of leading crime free lives.

We believe in the ability of all people to change given the right circumstances and supports.

As part of our information and support service we also work closely with the families and loved ones of people under sentence and awaiting sentencing. Our aim is to reduce recidivism and ultimately create a safer and healthier society.

Skills required:

  • good communication skills (written and verbal):
  • ability to communicate sensitive issues to clients and their families:
  • an ability to work on one’s own initiative:
  • an ability to work as part of a team:
  • experience in working with our target group is desirable:
  • a willingness to work with people affected by prison and to have a non-judgmental attitude is essential.

CAP would ask the potential keyworker to commit to a minimum of two days per week for a period of at least six months.
