RENUMERATION: Local public transport reimbursement and daily lunch allowance
GRADE: Intern
Contract: 3 months (with a possible extension to 6 months)
HOURS PER WEEK: 20

OVERALL PURPOSE OF THE JOB

Applications are invited for a Communications and digital media intern with Amnesty International Ireland. The role is offered on a part time basis and the post holder will be part of the Communications team. The intern will deliver specific functions within the Communications team, with a particular focus on digital communications.

The support we receive from our interns is invaluable and highly recognised. Our internship programmes are designed to assist organisational staff in their daily work, providing a collaborative approach to implementing our mission, values and crucial human rights work. We work hard to ensure that our interns also benefit from the experience. Working in a busy communications office, they gain invaluable experience on all aspects of our communications work including both traditional and digital media. Past interns have gone on to paid roles in both the private and not for profit sectors non-profit sector.

Main responsibilities:

Tasks are decided on the basis of the needs of the section and the experience, competencies and interests of the intern, but would include:

  1. Assisting in the creation of communications content for websites, social media and newsletters.
  2. Supporting in the co-ordination of the organisation’s editorial calendar, including updating and monitoring websites and social media platforms
  3. Assisting in organising media events and providing media support to events organised by other teams
  4. Uploading videos, photographs and other content.
  5. Supporting media outreach and responding to queries from media and members of the public
  6. Media monitoring and analysis
  7. Working with the communications team to ensure adherence to Amnesty International’s Global Identity, including language and style guide, image usage and design guidelines.
  8. Assisting in the organisation of meetings, updating of press lists and other administrative tasks

Essential skills:

  • Exceptional written communication skills, strong editing skills
  • Experience or understanding of social media platforms and tools.
  • Keen interest in human rights
  • Experience of organising events
  • Experience working to tight deadlines and an ability to work well under pressure
  • Administrative skills and computer literacy skills, including Microsoft Office
  • Video and photo editing skills are an advantage, including Adobe Creative suite
  • Flexibility in working hours
  • Understanding of and commitment to Equal Opportunities policies
