ASIST (Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training) is a two-day interactive skills building workshop in suicide first aid. It is founded on the principle that everyone can make a difference in preventing suicide.
ASIST teaches participants to recognise when someone may have thoughts of suicide and work with them to create a plan that will support their immediate safety
Anyone can learn the ASIST skills, participants don't need any formal training to attend the workshop.
Professionals attend because such skills are essential for their work, other workers, support staff, clergy and volunteers find that ASIST complements their existing training and knowledge.
Other people attend simply because they want to be able to help someone in need, in much the same way they might learn first aid skills.
The training is provided by HSE Community Healthcare East as part of its "Connecting for Life Dublin South East, Dun Laoghaire, East Wicklow Reducing Suicide Together Action Plan 2015 -2020" and is funded by the National Office for Suicide Prevention.
The training is FREE but places are limited so advance booking is essential.
