Motivational Interviewing is an evidence based, client-centered approach that elicits behavioral changes by assisting individuals explore and resolve ambivalence. Research has shown this approach to be helpful with a wide spectrum of client populations and issues.
Participants will acquire a solid base of M.I. Theory, explore M.I. spirit, investigate opening strategies, intervention traps, negotiate resistance, develop and integrate skills and techniques to progress competency. This workshop will benefit professionals working with people where behavior change would be favorable.
This course is open to people who have a sufficient degree of theoretical knowledge and a practical experience of applying M.I. In the Intermediate course participants will expand on theoretical principals, deepen understanding, increase technique range and develop skill base to progress competency.
Course has been awarded 12 CPD hours by The Addiction Counsellors of Ireland.
Brian Foley has worked in the addiction field for 29 years and is Client Programmes Co-Ordinator in a Dublin Addiction Service. He is involved in counselling, group work, supervision and training. Brian completed his Motivational Interviewing Training in Barcelona, Spain, in 1999 and facilitates the M.I Module for the Diploma in Community Drugs Work, U.C.D. He has provided numerous workshops on Addiction related issues and is a member of the Irish Association of Alcohol and Addiction Counsellors and The Motivational Interviewing Network of Trainers.
