Our role is the administration of SafeTalk, ASIST and Understanding Self-Harm education programmes in the Dublin North City and County area.
Courses are free to attend as they are fully funded by the HSE Mental Health, Dublin North City and County and the National Office for Suicide Prevention.
safeTALK is ‘suicide alertness‘ training. It teaches participants how to recognise people with thoughts of suicide and keep them safe. It is for anyone who wants to learn how to provide practical help to people having thoughts of suicide.
safeTALK is three and a half hours in duration and is a training that prepares anyone over the age of 18 to identify persons with thoughts of suicide and connect them to suicide first aid resources. Most people with thoughts of suicide invite help to stay safe. Alert helpers know how to use these opportunities to support that desire for safety. As a safeTALK-trained suicide alert helper, you will be better able to:
- move beyond common tendencies to miss, dismiss or avoid suicide
- identify people who have thoughts of suicide
- apply the TALK steps (Tell, Ask, Listen and KeepSafe) to connect a person with suicide thoughts to suicide first aid, intervention caregivers
Note: If you have experienced a loss or bereavement or your own suicidality, contact Bernie /CAD on email@example.com or Sandra/Suicide Resource Officer on Sandra.firstname.lastname@example.org and delay attendance to a later date.
