This is an affordable and popular training which aims to up-skill participants so they can become informed and equipped to lead others in reducing waste and living more sustainably. This is a two day training but participants can opt to do the first day only if preferred. The first day gives you the skills to run workshops and promote events, while the second day is a deeper exploration into living sustainably and advocating for societal change.
Day One: The one day (and the first day of the two day version) aims to up-skill participants so they can become informed and equipped to lead others in reducing waste, through workshops and events in their communities. The following topics are included, and delivered through fun and lively participative methodologies and discussions.

- The Zero Waste Movement
- Why do we need Zero Waste?
- Waste Statistics
- The problem with Plastic
- How to plan and run your own event or workshop
Suitable for those who have not done the one-day Zero Waste Educator Training with LYCS already.
Day Two: It is not possible to do the second day on a stand-alone basis. The second day will be a deeper exploration of how our way of living is threatening the survival of life on the planet, and how to react to this. Topics explored include:
- Globalisation and Consumerism
- The concept of sufficiency and meeting human needs
- Dealing with apathy and how to involve people in sustainability
- Economic Growth, Green Growth or Degrowth?
- Paradigm change
- Nature Connection and Self-Care
This training is targeted mainly at community workers and activists. Anyone else who has access to groups they can pass on the learning to is also welcome. A voluntary donation of a suggested €20 for one day and €40 for the two days is requested from those who aren't active in the community sector. It is run by a highly experienced trainer and over 100 people have already taken this course around Ireland. LYCS is a community organisation based in Dublin 1 which provides participative education and training for trainers which empowers people to become active players in our increasingly globalised and unequal world.
