Diploma in Community Drug and Alcohol Work (NFQ level 7) - 1 Year (part-time),
pathway to Bachelor of Social Science (NFQ Level 8) - 2 years FT (Diploma acts as year 1 of 3)
This comprehensive and professional course is run by Urrús in partnership with University College Dublin and provides participants with a range of skills and knowledge that will enhance their effectiveness in responding to the complex issue of drug and alcohol misuse within a community environment. This one year, intensive programme leading to a NFQ Level 7 Diploma awarded by University College Dublin, is based on community development principles and uses adult learning approaches in its delivery. The programme offers a progression pathway to the UCD Bachelor of Social Science, a degree with considerable cachet among employers, as well as one that can provide a gateway to a variety of careers, including Social Work (when combined with the Master of Social Science – Social Work).

The Diploma Course is a one-year course (September-May) and it is delivered one day a week, plus three Thursday evenings and seven Saturdays over the year.

- Understanding Prevention and Support in a Community Setting
- Introduction to Irish Social Policy / Drug and Alcohol Policy
- Introduction to Counselling
- Reflective Practice
- Approaches to Treatment and Rehabilitation
- Motivational Interviewing
- Professional Work Practice
- Community Research Methods
Eligibility: Persons over 21 who wish to develop their knowledge and skill in the area of Community Drug/Alcohol work and who have completed a Community Addiction Studies Course or equivalent. Participants must have the capacity to complete a course at NUI Diploma Level 7 (NFQ).

Closing Date: Completed application forms, with relevant documentation and administration fee must be received by Tuesday 24th April 2018. The initial round of interviews will be held during the first and second week of May.
Cost: Course fee for the year is: € 2,300.00. In addition there is a one-off, non-refundable, application fee of €25.00.
