An ideal introduction to the interventions and media used together with our experiential based training methods.
This one day course introduces mainly non-directive play techniques based upon the humanistic model of Carl Rogers and the work of Virginia Axline, Mark Barnes, Rachel Pinney and Violet Oaklander.
We will be outlining different techniques in play therapy. Participants will experience non-directive play therapy for themselves through sandtray work and a dip into the main skills (art, music, movement and storytelling).
We will also cover employment opportunities and training requirements for working therapeutically with children.

The course is designed for anyone with experience of children or adolescents, who either works or intends to work therapeutically with them including:

The Postgraduate Diploma/Certificate in Practice Based Play Therapy has been developed to meet the identified needs of practitioners in the play therapy sector who wish to pursue accredited programmes of study in a flexible manner, complimenting and supporting continued employment. This part-time blended learning programme of study builds on practical experience, enhancing the learner’s skills through exposure to theory, policy, research and work-based learning opportunities.
The course is run in collaboration with APAC, course developers and is validated by NUI Galway. It is the only University accredited Play Therapy course running in Ireland. APAC has a sound history with much experience in offering high quality practice based play therapy education and training. They are national leaders in providing training to become a certified play therapist, and continual professional development for those interested in play therapy including Filial Play Coaching/ Mentoring, Supervision for Play and Creative Art Therapists.
Play Therapy UK (PTUK) research has shown that people who have taken the APAC course will get improvements in the emotional well-being of children between 74-83% thorough the play therapy intervention if working to PTUK or Play Therapy International (PTI) standards. APAC’s training programme is the only one in the world that is validated through clinical outcomes research (over 10,000 cases). The purpose of the training is to produce safe and effective practitioners of the highest standard.

- Orientation to setting up and development of Practice based Play therapy within an Integrative Holistic Model.
- Using Symbolic Play Therapy Tools and Metaphor safely.
- Using Expressive Arts therapies as a means of Processing and Reaching the Unconscious.
- Working therapeutically with groups of Children and Young People – developing skills at an advanced level
- Working therapeutically at an advanced level and representing Children and Young People who have severe problems
