This research is funded by AONTAS and carried out by The Department of Adult and Community Education, Maynooth University. Its purpose is to produce a concise report that will examine the extent of closures of community education providers between January 2008 and January 2018.
The need for an evaluation of the current state of community education in Ireland has arisen against the backdrop of significant change and funding cuts to the community and voluntary sector over the past 10 years.
The findings from this research will allow AONTAS and the AONTAS Community Education Network (CEN) to support advocacy and lobbying work that argues for increases to funding for community education and reductions in unnecessary and/or over-burdensome administrative red-tape. This research will allow AONTAS and the CEN to continue to speak with authority about the real impact that funding and resource cuts have had in the past 10 years since the economic crash in 2008.
