National Carers Week - June 11th-17th 2018
The 12th annual National Carers Week will take place from June 11th to 17th this year. Over 100 events will take place nationwide to celebrate and recognise the role of Ireland’s 360,000 family carers. To mark the 12th anniversary of the week in Ireland, The Carmichael Centre in Dublin will light up blue all week to raise awareness of the crucial role family carers play in Irish society.
There are 12 not-for-profit partner organisations in the week, who alongside other organisations, will be hosting events specifically for family carers around the country. Partners this year are; Family Carers Ireland, the Alzheimer Society of Ireland, the Irish Cancer Society, the Disability Federation of Ireland, Acquired Brain Injury Ireland, MS Ireland, the Irish Hospice Foundation, St. Michaels House, Special Needs Parents Association, the Central Remedial clinic(CRC), Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland (SBHI) and co-ordinators Care Alliance Ireland.
The objectives of the week are three-fold:
- To raise awareness of family carers in our community
- To deliver events for family carers throughout the country
- To engage with family carers not yet availing of carer support services
