Donations welcome please of unisex practical pampering kits, non-perishable festive food, 'santa' raffle prizes and some non-alcoholic drink - greatly appreciated, in advance.
The sixth anniversary of the publication of the Ryan report (Commission of Inquiry into Child Abuse) was marked by one happy “pampering day” for men and women at Dublin’s Aislinn Centre for Education and Support of Survivors of Institutional Abuse officially re-named Christine Buckley Centre for Education and Support for the same cause, as founded by the late Christine Buckley and Carmel McDonnell Byrne, the centre helps survivors of institutional abuse.
Among the survivors are those survivors from former industrial schools, orphanages, mother and baby homes, survivors of magdelene laundry asylums also some survivors are homeless people and also some survivors with disabilities.
19th - 21st December 2017 Jervis House will be a hive of activity welcoming volunteers, singers, musicians for laughter, good food, music and sharing.
Each survivor hopes to enjoy each other’s company before Christmas-time, while taking time out of their hectic lives to stop and avail of a number of quick or short gentle treatments for men and women.
Gentle Yoga instructors, gentle dancers and mindfulness healers also are welcome to volunteer their lunch-break for a good cause - please support us.
Barbers, hairdressers and nail technicians are welcome to volunteer their time for one or two hours between 11.a.m. and 3p.m. if possible - please advise.
Through the pampering afternoons the women and men hope to try to take some time for self-care and to look after their wellbeing and enjoy friendship with other clients and supportive members of the public.
