Memorial event for Savita Halappanavar

A memorial event to honour the memory of Savita Halappanavar is being held on the 5th anniversary of her death from 4.00 to 5.00 on Saturday 28th October at the City Hall, Quay Street, Sligo. All are welcome to attend and to bring flowers and candles in memory of Savita.

Savita Halappanavar, a 31-year-old dentist, originally from India, died on 28 October 2012 at University Hospital Galway in Ireland due to what was interpreted as complications of a septic miscarriage at 17 weeks' gestation, after having been denied an abortion. A memorial event to remember Savita  is being held on Saturday 28th October in Sligo Town. The event will run from 4.00 to 5.00 at the Sligo City Hall on Quay Street and is one of a number of such events being held around Ireland on the same day. This will be a non political event and will feature local musicians, writers and poets who with many others, will gather to remember Savita on the 5th anniversary of her death.
