The Irish Foster Care Association is the national organisation that supports foster families and the wider fostering community. We advance and promote best practice in foster care through support, learning and advocacy. Membership is broad based and includes foster and relative carers, social workers, childcare workers, academics and others with an interest in or who are involved in foster care. What is required? Vacancies exist for Volunteers to support IFCA Branches and Hubs to arrange and host events for foster carers and their families e.g coffee mornings, family outings, learning/ information sessions. The Volunteer would liaise closely with the other branch/hub IFCA volunteers in their area, IFCAs Membership & Volunteer Manager and when required, Tusla fostering social workers, with a view to supporting foster carers through IFCAs established IFCA Branches and promoting the further development of the newer IFCA Hubs.

How many hours would I be expected to volunteer? Volunteers will ideally work for up to 4-5 hours per month.

Do I need to have qualifications? No specific qualifications are required, and training will be provided. Ideally applicants would be foster carers or have some knowledge of fostering, parenting or childcare; good interpersonal and organisational skills; a non-judgmental attitude as well as patience, and the ability to listen and empathise.

Training? Induction & Training will be provided.

Applications will be short listed and invited to attend a semi-formal individual interview where we will go through your application form in greater detail in a relaxed atmosphere.

If you are successful at interview you will be asked to complete a number of important documents, including Garda Vetting.
