Dublin Rape Crisis Centre: Volunteers Needed

The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre (DRCC) is a voluntary organisation, which works to prevent the harm and heal the trauma of rape and sexual abuse.

The DRCC is currently recruiting volunteers of all genders to undertake training for the following services:

  • Out-of-hours Telephone Counsellors on the National 24-hour Helpline.
  • Support volunteers for victims/survivors in the aftermath of rape or sexual assault at the Sexual Assault Treatment Unit (SATU) in the Rotunda Hospital, Dublin.
  • Webchat is a free and confidential online support service for adults who have been affected by sexual violence, which offers one to one support and information.

Information Evening:

  • Two online information evenings will be available on Monday the 20th and Wednesday the 22nd of February. These are purely for the purpose of providing further information to interested parties, and imply no obligation whatsoever.   • No previous experience or qualifications are required. Successful applicants receive full training and have access to staff support and mentoring.
  • We welcome applications from people from all sections of the community, irrespective of race, colour, gender, age, disability, sexual orientation, religion or belief.

Training Commitment & Dates:

  • Training will commence on Saturday the 25th of March, will take place in the Marino Institute of Education and will run over four weekends;
    • Saturday 25th – Sunday 26th March.
    • Saturday 1st – Sunday 2nd April.
    • Break for Easter.
    • Saturday 15th – Sunday 16th April.
    • Saturday 22nd April.
  • Self-directed training elements and 1/2 mid-week online evening sessions will also be part of the training.
  • A visit to the SATU unit will take place on Wednesday 12th of April.
  • Please note: It is essential that applicants be available for all training dates.
  • The Marino Institute of Education is located on Griffith Ave, Grace Park, Dublin, D09 R232. There is free parking available on site.


  • Assessments will take place upon the successful completion of training.
  • They will take place in the Dublin Rape Crisis Centre building in 70 Leeson Street Lower between the 24th – 28th April

Applicants must:

  • Be a minimum of 24 years of age;
  • Be open to learning and have an ability to self-reflect;
  • Be fluent in English;
  • Be able to attend all training dates;
  • Have access to a good/secure internet/broadband service;
  • Have access to a secure/private space in which to take Helpline calls and reply to Webchat service;
  • Commit to one shift per week (four shifts per month), embracing all the different shifts;
  • Commit to attending a monthly peer support meeting, which will take place on either a Monday or Tuesday;
  • Be able to keep strict confidentiality about all aspects of the work and adhere to all GDPR requirements;
  • Take responsibility for timely submitting of required data;
  • Must live within a commutable distance of the SATU unit;
  • Complete Garda Vetting, Children First and Safeguarding Adult E-learning training;
  • Commit to a minimum of two-years’ service to the DRCC volunteer programme;
