Gorey Family Resource Centre Counselling Service: Volunteer Students, Counsellors / Psychotherapists
Volunteer students, Pre-accredited and accredited Counsellors / Psychotherapists
Gorey Family Resource Centre (GFRC) is part of the National Family and Community Services Resource Centre Programme (FCSRCP). There are currently 121 communities supported by this Programme which is funded through the Tusla / Child and Family Agency. Resources are provided to establish an independent community run Family Resource Centre (FRC) in areas experiencing high levels of disadvantage. It is Ireland’s largest family support initiative and is an integral part of the Child and Family Agency's Local Area Pathways model. The Programme emphasises involving local communities, individuals and families in tackling the problems they face, and creating successful partnerships between voluntary and statutory agencies at community level. FRCs are by nature participative and empowering organisations that provide supports while also building the capacity and leadership of local communities.
Family Resource Centres provide a large range of universal or targeted services as well as development opportunities that address the needs of families and individuals, including the provision of counselling and support services.
Gorey Family Resource Centre’s vision is to enhance the well-being and quality of life for individuals and families in the community of Gorey and surrounding areas.
OUR MISSION STATEMENT
Working with the community and other groups and agencies to create a safe and friendly environment which facilitates positive change and enhances individual and family well-being and resilience.
Having a counselling service available means that clients of the service are better able to deal with trauma, relationship breakdown, grief/ bereavement, anxiety, depression and crisis. Individuals and families are better able to bring about positive changes in their lives. The sense of well-being becomes visible in the demeanour of clients, they become more enaging in life which has been apparent by clients joining other groups in the Centre, or returning to education and or work.
