Social Buddies: Volunteers Needed

Social Buddies

Social Buddies is an initiative established within Intellectual Disability (ID) day services that aims to support people with an intellectual disability to access social supports outside the traditional day-service hours, and to facilitate friendships among peers in the local community supported by a volunteer. The Initiative operates in HSE Community Healthcare - Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan, Sligo.

Individuals who use our service are matched up with a volunteer based on common interests, age and location. Volunteers commit to once monthly outings with their buddies, so that the overall outcome of this experience results in social benefits for both the volunteer and the person using the day service. No experience is necessary as training will be provided by the HSE .

  • You are over the age of 18
  • You are interested in supporting someone with an intellectual disability on social outings
  • You can commit a minimum of one evening or day per month for a year’s duration

Volunteering can enhance your personal and professional skills to gain valuable experience for your future. You’ll have the opportunity to build confidence as you overcome challenges in your role. You’ll also get to meet like-minded people who share your interests and build strong friendships in your local community.
