Midlands LGBTI+ Project is a brand new project, designed to support and provide spaces for LGBT+ adults in Laois, Kildare, Offaly and surrounding areas. We have social meet ups, peer support groups, pride and awareness events and support for parents of LGBT+ young people. Through these activities we hope to help create a sense of community for LGBT+ people in the midlands, and reduce isolation felt. 

The project also works towards ensuring the wider community is as inclusive and diverse as possible where LGBT+ feel safe and can thrive in their communities through LGBT+, Inclusivity and Diversity training for schools, businesses and organisations. 

Role Overview:

Peer Support Befrienders and Social Activity Organisers - Laois, Kildare and Offaly        

Min Hours: 5-10 hours a month
Commitment required: 6 months minimum

We are looking for Peer Support Befrienders in Kildare, Laois and Offaly, tasks include:

Tasks:

  • To commit to attending our monthly peer support virtual group (1.5hours) as a volunteer facilitator with other volunteers. 
  • To attend peer support training, and follow our volunteer guidelines.
  • To attend our monthly volunteer meeting
  • To become a point of contact for new LGBT+ members in your county wanting to join our groups and inform them of our services
  • To help us promote our services within your county

We are looking for Social Activity Organisers in Kildare, Laois and Offaly, tasks include:

Tasks:

  • To commit to organising a small meet up in your county for our LGBT+ social group once a month. Activities can include, cinema, meal, walk, hike, picnic etc. 
  • To attend our monthly volunteer meeting
  • To attend training, and follow our volunteer guidelines.
  • To help us promote our services within your county

What's required for this position:

  • You must be over 18 years of age
  • Garda vetting will be carried out and two references are required.
  • Knowledge and experience of working with the LGBT+ Community is a distinct advantage
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Must be reliable, flexible, respectful with a commitment to equality
