Le Chéile Mentoring

Youth Mentors Needed Across North Dublin

Your Time, Your Support, Your Kindness has the ability to change lives!

Le Chéile Mentoring provides a one-to-one mentoring service for young people who have offended and are referred to us by the Probation Service, An Garda Síochána and Oberstown Children Detention Campus.

Who we’re looking for?

We are looking to recruit volunteer youth mentors over the age of 21 from across North County Dublin. We are also particularly interested in applicants from Coolock and the surrounding areas for a new mentoring project we will be launching in the area.

Potential volunteers should have a passion to make a difference in their community and a commitment to being a personable, positive and reliable Mentor. The young people referred to us come from all walks of life, so we’re looking for people that can make a connection and build a positive mentoring relationship.

What’s involved?

Once you’re fully trained, you’ll be matched with a young person and mentoring sessions will take place once a week for between one and three hours. Our volunteering is flexible, meaning you can meet during the day, evenings or weekends. These sessions aim to provide support and encouragement through doing activities together like going to the cinema, playing pool, or just meeting for a bite to eat and a chat. Le Chéile covers all costs; all you give is your time.

What will you get out of it?

As a volunteer mentor, you have an opportunity to encourage positive change in the life of a young person and to witness first-hand the impact that you can have. Additionally, you can also expect the following:

  • Full online mentor induction training
  • Support of a trained Mentoring Co-ordinator
  • Regular group sessions with other Mentors
  • Optional ongoing training to learn new skills
  • Expenses
  • Meet new people and make new friends
  • Gain experience that will support your personal and professional development

Important Notice

At Le Chéile Mentoring we are mindful of our responsibility to provide a safe environment for our volunteers and staff at all times, and especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. When face to face mentoring is permitted to happen in line with government guidance, it involves meeting the young person for up to three hours per session. For this reason, we have placed restrictions on who can engage in face to face mentoring. These restrictions are in line with public health advice and current guidance on at-risk groups. To find out more on these risk categories, please review the HSE guidance here.

Please note, we also strictly adhere to the National Return to Work Safely Protocol and to the measures provided for in the Protocol.
