Voluntary Service International (VSI): Programme Officer
VSI is seeking a volunteer Programme Officer, to work with our small staff and volunteer team based in Dublin city centre. This is an EU-funded (European Solidarity Corps) volunteer position for an 18-30 year old, starting in November for 12 months.
VSI is the Irish branch of Service Civil International (SCI), a worldwide peace movement that began in 1920. We work to promote peace, social justice, sustainable development and intercultural understanding. We do this through volunteering activities internationally and in Ireland and through non-formal educational activities.
The volunteer will work in a supportive role on volunteer recruitment, administration of volunteer placements, supporting volunteers during volunteer projects while abroad and/or in Ireland, liaison with our national and international partners, supporting ongoing projects and assisting with arranging new projects, attending volunteer fairs, delivering presentations and non-formal workshops on peace, social justice and development education. Our volunteer projects cover a wide range of topics including peace and human rights education, environmental conservation/climate justice and supporting refugees and asylum seekers; the volunteer will learn about these subjects and more. They will be immersed in VSI’s activities and will gain insight and experience of working with a national and international national NGO.
Funding for living expenses will be provided plus mentoring support for the volunteer’s personal and professional development.
No skills or experience are required. Training in facilitation skills will be provided as well as other areas and on the job learning. The volunteer will attend an international meeting in Europe as well as workshops and webinars/seminars in Ireland. This role would suit someone who is interested in working in international relations, development education, international youth work or human rights.
