Support Worker SOSAD Volunteer Position Drogheda and Navan

SOSAD Ireland is an Irish Suicide prevention and bereavement support charity. Providing early intervention and support through life's challenges, through a person centered, professional approach. We value our volunteers as a source of our strength; enabling us to deliver the best care and support to our clients.

The main goals of SOSAD:

  • To raise awareness of suicide in Ireland
  • To remove the stigma of suicide in Ireland
  • To provide support and direction to those feeling depressed and/or suicidal
  • To provide support and direction to those who may know someone feeling suicidal
  • To provide support and direction to those who have been bereaved by suicide


What's Involved:

  • Carry out detailed psychological risk assessments and ongoing reviews of clients
  • Evaluating from the assessment the best action to take in the client's recovery (i.e working in conjunction with/or referral of clients to statutory, community and other voluntary services)
  • To ensure recording keeping in compliance with SOSAD
  • Provide support, advice, and care for clients
  • Dealing with low to high-risk suicidal clients presenting with issues of self-harm, abuse, alcoholism, depression, homelessness, and unresolved past trauma
  • Maintaining accurate and confidential records in line with SOSAD policy and regulations

What's Required:

  • A professional qualification (level 7/8 or above) in psychology, nursing, social science or equivalent is desirable
  • Safetalk / ASIST training desirable
  • Commitment of at least 2-4 hours (1 day) per week
  • Ability to work as part of a team
  • Ability to work positively with clientele and develop rapport
  • Ability to work on their own initiative
  • Effective communication and organisational skills
  • Respect for patient confidentiality at all times
  • To maintain professional and personal boundaries
  • Must have a caring, empathetic, non-judgmental and understanding nature
