Limerick3D Volunteers Wanted for Hunt Museum Project
Do you have skills in digital technology? Are you interested in museums and cultural heritage? If so, why not combine these and became a Limerick3D volunteer at Limerick’s Hunt Museum.
The Hunt Museum, which opened in 1997, houses a diverse collection of antiquities and fine and decorative art. It reflects the tastes and interests of the two people who formed it, John and Gertrude Hunt.
The Limerick3D project was established in August 2018 to support the digitising of the Hunt Museum’s Permanent Collection. Since then, volunteers have created nearly one hundred 3D digital object models. To do this they use a photography-based process known as photogrammetry to digitally record the objects. Object photographs are then imported into a specific software which generates the 3D digital models. You can check out progress on this project so far by visiting the Limerick3D Sketchfab page using this link https://sketchfab.com/Limerick3D
In the near future, The Hunt Museum is also aiming to 3D print (3 x human scale) a number of 3D digital models for its Riverside Garden project where these will be installed as interactive play features. Limerick3D volunteers will be encouraged to support this project so there will be ample opportunity for interested individuals to get involved and to learn about 3D printing processes and technologies.
New volunteers will receive training in:
- Digital recording of objects (using photogrammetry)
- Operation of software to generate 3D models
- Uploading 3D digital models to Sketchfab and other digital platforms
- Blog creation on Limerick3D project activities
Limerick3D volunteers typically work on the project in the Hunt Museum each Wednesday (10am to 2pm) but additional days might be added if there is sufficient interest.
How to apply:
Submit an up to date CV to firstname.lastname@example.org along with a short cover letter which:
- outlines why you are interested in volunteering on this project and
- the days/times you are available to do so
Once you have completed the above, the Limerick3D project manager will contact you.
Deadline for applications – Tuesday March 31st, 5pm
Please call 061 490080 (Monday to Friday) or email email@example.com with queries on this volunteering opportunity.
