This session will demystify Board members' roles and responsibilities and give you tools to enhance your contribution and the effectiveness of your Board. It outlines the purpose of the board as a whole in relation to governance and management. We then examine the specific roles of individual board members and in particular, their legal responsibilities and duties under the Charities Act (2009) and the Companies Act (2014). The workshop will finish with a discussion on typical problems arising within boards and some practical solutions to deal with them. Sessions delivered via Zoom. Fee = €70 per person for non-profits.

This Strategic Planning workshop will guide you through core elements of strategy: challenge, cohesion and commitment. It will look at approaches and models in conducting strategic analysis, examining options, building in agility and how to monitor implementation. Step-by-step, you will learn what a strategic planning process involves, what tools and techniques can help you along the way, what the end result should look like, and how to get everyone on board. Board Members have ultimate responsibility for the finances of their organisation and must exercise good financial stewardship. This online workshop aims to give Board Members the skills and knowledge to understand financial information that they are typically provided with on a regular basis, what to ask for, warning signs to watch out for and questions to ask. Excel Experts – Master your Vlookups - Online
(2.30pm-4.30pm – Wed, 26th Jan 2022)
If you are an experienced excel user, you might want to learn more about Vlookups. In this short course you will learn how to use this function to: compare lists of data, link two data sets together. You will also learn how to make it easier to identity non-matching items. You will also get a chance to learn about some alternatives to Vlookups e.g. Index/Match and Xlookup. Sessions delivered via Zoom. Fee = €70 per person for non-profits.

If you are an experienced excel user, you might want to learn more about Pivot tables. In this short course you will learn how to get more insights from your data by exploring the functionality of pivot tables to show percentages, year to date totals and more. Sessions delivered via Zoom. Fee = €70 per person for non-profits.

Video builds trust online and this session will benefit any non-profit trying to find the time to create regular video content with limited time and resources. So if you work in communications for a non-profit then check out the best way for you to start doing some video right now. This half day session aims to bring participants through a process to create a sustainable video strategy for a non-profit. Participants will learn skills to create video content using just their smartphone and how to upload the video without the need to edit the videos. The session will also include a demonstration of an editing App and carrying out some simple editing tasks like trimming and adding titles. Everyone leaving should have confidence to know what they want to film for their non-profit and how to film it. Sessions delivered in Carmichael House. Fee = €70 per person for non-profits.
The Role of the Treasurer - Online

This course is aimed at treasurers serving on the Boards of non-profit organisations or people thinking of serving in that capacity. The outline of the course and its motifs are listed below:
- Main duties of a treasurer in any organisation.
- Treasurer duties in charities and companies.
- Basic financial management for non-profits.
- Ensuring your non-profit is financially accountable.
- Preparing budget projections.
All participants will receive a helpful time-saving resource in the form of Financial Policy template adaptable for their own use and containing best practice. Sessions will be delivered online via Zoom. Fee = €70 per person for non-profits.

A Board/Trustee Governance Handbook Template has been developed by Carmichael as part of our ongoing efforts to support non-profit organisations. In developing this free handbook, Carmichael sought to reflect the principles and standards of the Charities Governance Code but it can be used by any non-profit organisation.
