The Organic Centre: Horticultural Training Course
Full Time Horticultural Training Course at The Organic Centre 2021.
The Level 5 QQI accredited course in horticulture at The Organic Centre is set to commence in March 1st 2021.
It is fully funded by the Mayo, Sligo, Leitrim Education and Training Board (MSLETB).
The course lasts 50 weeks and is full time, Monday to Friday 9 to 5pm.
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic this programme will be delivered in a Blended Learning format.
This method will involve both Classroom sessions and online sessions.
Changes to the delivery of training will be subject to future Government regulations in relation to the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic
There are 9 Minor Award modules and a pass in all 9 leads to the Major Award in Horticulture.
The award will also enable learners to prepare for progression to a horticultural specialisation at level 6.
The 9 modules are:
- Work Practice
- Soil Science and Growing Media
- Plant Identification and Use
- Plant Science
- Plant Protection
- Organic Production.
- Biodiversity and the Natural Environment
- Team Working
- Fruit and Vegetable Production
The modules are assessed by written assignments, practical demonstrations and written examinations.
Selection for the 15 places is by interview in mid February from a list compiled by MSLETB, Ballytivnan, Sligo.
