This month event has been our most requested topic to date and looks at the concept of succession planning.

Succession planning is the process of passing leadership roles down to employees in the organisation.

It is often used to refer to planning for the exit of a senior manager, but all organisations should be working on a leadership pipeline in their organisation. It is not just for the leaders planning to leave, but also for upcoming leaders to have a clear understanding of the direction of the organisation and where their own path might go.

Dermot Mc Laughlin has extensive experience on the board of nonprofit’s and has been directly involved in the exiting of a number of CEO’s. He is also a consultant in the sector and regularly works with organisations managing succession planning.

Sharon O’Halloran was CEO of SAFE Ireland for 19 years before deciding she wanted to leave. She wanted to exit in a way that was useful to both her and her organisation so she took a rather novel way of exiting.
