Are you interested in taking part in a free Podiatry (Footcare) Screening and Education Project for People with Type 2 Diabetes?
Are you living in Dublin City (Northside) or North County Dublin?
Diabetes Ireland is seeking up to 50 people with Type 2 diabetes to take part in a diabetes footcare programme at its Care Centre in Santry, Dublin 9. Specifically, we are seeking people who reside in the HSE CHO 9 area of Dublin North, Dublin North Central, Dublin North West, Dublin North City and North County Dublin.
The project aims to deliver and evaluate an in-depth diabetes footcare programme to educate 50 people with diabetes on how to care for their feet, understand the importance of doing so, how to recognise problems, know when to seek professional help and avoid the development of diabetes related foot problems/ ulceration.
What’s involved for you?
As a participant, you will be required to:
- Attend a 1-hour group (10 people) virtual education session via Zoom with our podiatrist. Participants will learn how to care for their feet on a daily basis, why it’s so important to do so, how to recognise problems and know when to seek professional help.
- Attend 2 free treatment sessions in our Care Centre in Santry (1 immediately after the above education session and 1 at 6-8 months) for a detailed “diabetic footcare assessment and a footcare treatment."
- Complete Pre and Post Knowledge Questionnaires on Footcare Management.
Aim of the Project:
Due to continued under-resourcing of podiatry services, there is inadequate specialised early diabetes footcare screening and education and thus a lack of early intervention in patients who require it.
This project will investigate whether giving participants the knowledge of how to care for their feet plus the ongoing support of a podiatry team will motivate you to look after your feet more regularly and prevent the development of ulcers and other diabetes related foot complications.
Through this support and intervention project, our aim is to keep you well managed and out of hospital. As part of the project, we will also send medical reports to your GP after each of your treatment sessions.
Interested in taking part? If so, please complete this short questionnaire or contact Diabetes Ireland on 01 8428118. A maximum of 50 participants will be chosen to participate in the project.
If selected, you will be contacted by Diabetes Ireland by May 7th, 2021.
The information you provide is confidential and will only be used by Diabetes Ireland as part of this project. This research project is funded by a HSE Lottery Grant. Please complete the survey link https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2VMMMND
