Financial Controller – part time 3 days per week

The Organisation:

AsIAm is Ireland’s National Autism Charity based in Blackrock, Co. Dublin. The Role:

AsIAm is seeking a dynamic, qualified Financial Controller who is willing to be hands-on and interested in developing effective financial systems. The successful candidate will report to the Head of Governance and Compliance and will be responsible for AsIAm’s daily financial processes, budgeting, taxation, preparation of accounts and monthly financial reporting processes. The Financial Controller will also produce thorough management accounts for the senior management team, Board, and various sub-committees as well as helping to improve our operational efficiency and assist in our continued safe growth.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Bank account reconciliation to required standards and frequency.
  • Ongoing analysis of budgeting goals against expenditure and targets.
  • Income analysis.
  • Credit control.
  • Help develop and support short- and long-term operational strategies.
  • Ensure ongoing financial compliance with all legal and regulatory requirements in line with best practice and meeting regulatory deadlines.
  • Design and conduct internal compliance checks and audits as required.
  • Assist in the preparation of annual accounts for external auditors.
  • Completion of regular funding documentation returns in line with agreed commitments.
  • Maintain internal safeguards for revenue receipts, costs, and team and organisational budgets and actual expenditures.
  • Implement consistent accounting policies, practices, and procedures across all programmes.
  • Develop and enforce internal controls to maximise protection of company assets.
  • The role holder will be required to provide ad hoc finance support to the CEO and senior management team members in the development, implementation and review of various projects and initiatives.
  • While the role is part-time, a degree of flexibility may be required regarding working days/hours, particularly when significant funding and budgeting initiatives may arise.

Key Requirements:

  • An recognised accounting qualification (e.g. ACA, CPA, CAI or CIMA) is an essential requirement.
  • 5+ years post-qualification experience in a financial/accounting environment.
  • Experience of monthly and annual accounts preparation.
  • Evidence of experience of, and strong commitment to, governance and controls.
  • Strong proficiency in MS Office, to include advanced Excel skills.
  • Hands-on monthly payroll and taxation experience.
  • Experience of maximising SAGE accounts or similar accounting software package.
  • In-depth knowledge of Charity SORP (FRS112) and deferred income.
  • Excellent analytical and presentation skills.
  • Risk management skills.
  • Experience of the charity sector would be an advantage.
  • Experience of Section 39 funding would be an advantage.

Contract Duration:

This is an initial 1-year contract with the potential to extend.

Salary and Benefits:

AsIAm will offer a salary and benefits commensurate with the AsIAm pay scale and experience.
In addition to annual leave, the company traditionally offers additional paid time off (company days) including a Christmas office closure period. This is sanctioned annually at the discretion of management.

Working Hours:

The role is 24 hours per week.
While the role is part-time, a degree of flexibility may be required regarding working days/hours, particularly when significant funding and budgeting initiatives may arise.

The role is based in AsIAm HQ in Blackrock, Co. Dublin.
