Job Title: Fulltime Youth Worker
Reports to: Manager
The candidate:
Essential Qualifications
- Professionally endorsed qualification in Youth Work or Youth and Community Worker a relevant Social Science Degree
Or - Have worked with young people for two years full time in a youth work setting and have an equivalent professional qualification within the social studies/youth work/education or community development field.
Job Description:
An extensive range of activity based and targeted programmes for children and young people aged 10-24. From our after schools drop-in sessions, our sports, drama and arts programmes. We also have multi media programmes , coder sessions, Lego robotics, music, digital art & creative technology programmes to name but a few.
We are currently recruiting for 1 youth worker position. This youth worker role will be focused on leading and implementing youth work programmes of a high quality. The youth worker will receive support and supervision as part of a large in-house team.
We are specifically looking for candidates who may have a background in or experience of:
- Outdoor pursuits hill walking , fishing, cycling, camping , rock climbing & related activities
- Sports
- Educational support with young people, with experience in homework clubs or other educational activities
- Music programmes & creative art/digital /gaming & DJ tuition
- Maker programmes & video production
Responsibilities:
- Contributing to annual planning, reporting and review work for the project
- Carrying out assessments and recruiting young people for participation in the programme
- Engaging with and building professional trusting relationships with young people and their families.
- Providing support and advocating on behalf of young people.
- Identifying and facilitating programmes to meet the needs of the young people (with specific focus on supports in relation to informal educational work)
- Some Outreach & street work
- Weekend residentials at least two per year
- Some weekend and at least three evenings per week
Administration:
- Maintain up-to-date records in relation to the progress and development of young people.
- Attend weekly staff meetings with all other staff members of SWICN
- Support the implementation of SWICN Strategy, specifically in terms of engagement with young people
- Logic Model planning for youth work programmes
- Log book recording system
Other:
- Work directly alongside other staff members in various settings.
- Work as part of a team engaging in team meetings and appropriate supervision, review and planning sessions.
- Promote positive working relationships with external organisations.
- Maintain employer confidentiality at all times.
- Be responsible for time management.
Personal skills:
- Excellent communication skills.
- Excellent motivation and ability to work on own initiative.
- Excellent organisational and IT skills.
